The 2020-21 Campaign has seen some of the best players of the English second-tier football rise up to the test and prove themselves more than capable to compete in the higher format of the game. The likes of Arnaut Danjuma, Ivan Toney, Emi Buendia are just some of the names on the list who can do more than a decent job if featured in the Premier League starting XI.
Football Next decided to rank ten players of 20-21 EFL Championship season who deserve to be signed by top clubs of the premier league after a brilliant season in the second division of English football. As this list is made upon players who deserve to be added to Premie League teams, we are not going to include players like Harry Wilson who loaned out from Premier League teams to play in the Championship.
1. Ivan Toney (Brentford)
The 25-year-old English Center Forward saw a firing season as he was able to find the back of the net 31 times in his 45 appearances in the league, securing the number 1 spot in the top scorer list for the season. His 10 assists also rank him 4th alongside Harry Wilson and Bryan Mbuemo. Unarguably the best player of the league this season, Ivan Toney is sure to lead the line as Brentford will play in the Premier League next season.
2. Emiliano BuendÃa (Norwich)
The Norwich star will surely hope to carry on his fabulous form to the Premier League next season as he took his side to the dreamland of the top flight of English football. The Argentine Winger's 15 strikes aided with 17 assists saw The Canaries dominate the league right from the start of the season. A suspension and Shinbone Injury at the beginning of the season meant that the player had to miss the first three matches. But it was never enough to stop him from taking the throne for the most assist this season.
3. Lucas João (Reading)
4. Arnaut Danjuma( AFC Bournemouth)
With the ongoing rumors of potential West Ham interest, speculations around the player are at an all-time high. And judging his last season's performance for AFC Bournemouth, there is little doubt about his ability to find the back of the net. Voted the best player for the Cherries this season, Arnaut Danjuma scored 15 goals and 7 assists in 33 league appearances. His long-distance goal against Norwich is one of the goals of the season. The left winger's ability to create chances and convert them on a regular basis made him a huge threat against even the strongest of oppositions this season.
5. Michael Olise (Reading)
6. Jake Cooper (Millwall)
It might come as a surprise to some people as Millwall is not a strong candidate among the championship clubs to have a top player in their squad. But very few people will have doubts about their center-back Jake Cooper who had a good 20/21 season. The 26-year-old leviathan defender is a terrific presence in the air, with a 5.3 average on aerial duels won. He is also defensively solid and contributed effectively to his team securing 11th position in the league. A consistent threat during set-piece, Jake Cooper is surely a defender Premier League outfits will have their eyes upon.
7. Adam Armstrong ( Blackburn)
8. Ben Cabango (Swansea)
The 20/21 season has seen Ben Cabango establish himself as one of the best Center Back in the league. The No-nonsense defender's 1.7 interceptions per 90 minutes aided with an average of 4.7 aerial duels won per game is nothing less of an impressive defensive showing for a defender his age. Interest is high on him from a number of clubs as the Wales International will be a great addition to any defense in the league.
9. Josh Dasilva (Brentford)
The technically gifted midfielder featured in lesser matches this season than the previous campaign but was in no short of good showings as he had an impressive passing success rate of 87.9%, averaging around 34.8 passes. With an average of 1.1 key passes per game, he is surely one of the most dreaded midfielders in the league. Josh still has a lot of time to prove himself. Given their promotion to the Premier League this season, the young midfielder will surely have his share of time to show the top flight what he is capable of doing.
10. Sean Morrison (Cardiff)
The veteran defender has previously featured in the Premier League with Cardiff back in the 2018/19 season but failed to survive the relegation battle. But since then, the center back has been a consistent performer at both ends of the pitch, leading Cardiff to 8th place finish. The center defender scored 5 goals this season with the Bluebirds while also managing an astronomical 5.8 aerial duels won per game. The defender managed to grab 3 MotM awards in 39 league games this season. With 1.3 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, it is safe to say that the 30-year-old defender deserves another shot at the top league to prove his quality.
