Brighton to battle Roma for Getafe's Cucurella

Brighton & Hove Albion are competing with Jose Mourinho's Roma for Getafe left-back Marc Cucurella.

Brighton & Hove Albion are competing with Jose Mourinho's Roma for Getafe leftback Marc Cucurella.

More clubs are expected to join the line for the former Barcelona player if he performs well for Spain's under-23 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Cucurella has a release clause in his contract with Getafe of around £15million.

Cucurella has been consistently brilliant with Getafe for a number of years following his departure from Barcelona. Cucurella has been mostly used as a left-sided midfielder by Getafe during an earlier spell with Eibar in teams adopting a pressing and direct style of play.

The player would prefer to revert to his original position, left-back, where he features in 48 league games for Barcelona's B team from 2016-19.

It is believed that Cucurella wants to play for a club that emphasizes possession, which fits Brighton's style of play under Graham Potter.

Brighton are looking to fill the vacancy left by Solly March after his injury in February and Cucurella is reported to be one of their top targets. The left fullback is proficient in both the attacking and defensive aspects of the game, as previously seen from his La Liga performance.
